Engineering first
Every opening we cut is reinforced with welded steel framing and checked by a licensed structural engineer before the home leaves the workshop.
About Steelnest

Our story
Millions of shipping containers retire from service while their steel frames still have decades of life left. We saw a better use for them: a strong, ready-made structure that could become a home faster than any site-built house.
What started with a single lakeside cabin has grown into a workshop that delivers homes across the country. The idea has not changed. Take a container that was built to carry cargo across the world, engineer it properly, insulate it well and finish it with the care you would expect in any good home.
Building indoors lets us control quality at every step. Our team works on your home in the dry, inspects each stage and knows exactly what it will cost before we start.
Our standards
Four promises that shape every home we build, whether it is a backyard studio or a two-story family home.
Every opening we cut is reinforced with welded steel framing and checked by a licensed structural engineer before the home leaves the workshop.
You sign off on one price that covers the build, delivery and setup. If we underestimate, that is our problem, not yours.
Working inside our workshop means no rain delays, tighter quality control and far less waste than a typical job site.
Marine-grade coatings, sealed joints and long-life materials, backed by a 10-year structural warranty on every home.
Sustainability
Reusing steel avoids the energy it takes to make new framing, and a tight, well-insulated shell keeps running costs low for decades.
Nothing beats standing inside a finished module. We are happy to show you around our Austin, Texas workshop, walk you through homes on the line and answer every question in person.
